The Visionaire Technology
VISIONAIRE™ is a special technology targeting patient needs that is used in knee arthroplasty requiring the use of MRI and complete X-ray film of standing patients under load. MRI is used to create individually custom-designed cutting blocks and the complete X-ray film of the standing patient for correct axial alignment of the implant. This method allows the orthopaedist to perform precision bone cuts needed to place and correctly align the knee implant, which can result in significant extension of the service life of the implant and makes it possible for the patient to return to active life.
To produce/make the VISIONAIRE Patient Matched TKA cutting blocks a number of diagnostic imaging methods have been evaluated, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and CT arthrography. Our protocol of preoperative imaging with MRI has shown that it provides precise replication of bone and cartilage anatomy essential for the special patient-targeting technologies. Precise fitting of femur and tibia that can be achieved using the cutting blocks from Smith & Nephew is possible in most cases thanks to anatomic details provided on MRI films integrated into each unique cutting block. This level of anatomic replication is unparalleled compared with other imaging methods.

- shorter duration of interventions – more considerate anaesthesia
- more efficient convalescence process – faster return to normal movements
For the surgeon:
- fewer surgical steps (less by approximately 20 steps when compared with standard procedures) associated with sizing and placement of cutting templates
- shorter duration of surgery
- control – preoperative planning allowing to implement changes
- smaller blood loss and reduced need of blood transfusions
