The World Day of Diabetes monitoring
On the 12th April, already for the second time the health prevention event “Watch your health” took place in Prague. This activity was held under the heading of the educational campaign of the same name, of which is PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP, a.s. the general sponsor. This campaign aims to draw the attention of the general public to the health risks of undetected diabetes. Diabetes is a tricky disease that does not cause a pain and can therefore remain undiscovered for quite a long time, and in the meantime, it causes irreversible damage.
The theme of this year’s event was an aim for the early detection of the disease, ideally at the pre-diabetic stage, that precedes the development of diabetes. The experts estimate that 8 out of 10 cases of developing diabetes could be prevented by early diagnosis. The importance of prevention is therefore still immense and PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP, a.s. and their Diabetes Care division have taken a commitment to it.
Those who were interested had the opportunity at no costs to have their blood glucose measured as well as a detailed body composition analysis done. These factors are important indicators of the development of civilization diseases and the threat of developing diabetes. The offer of free measurement was taken up by several hundred participants who were interested in their health check. Almost 300 of them have had their blood glucose level tested. Unfortunately, the results of this campaign were rather disturbing. Every sixth tested person had a glycaemic value above the normal range of “healthy” people. These people received a consultation on the next recommended course of action and were educated about the importance of self-monitoring of blood glucose. The partners of the event were the Centre for Lifetime Learning, the Regional Council of Seniors and VŠTJ MEDICINA PRAHA.
